July Playlist
The Moon Invaders
Ska/Reggae/Soul from Belgium. Smooth harmonies, easy beats and solid up tone rhythms. Classic sounds from a newer band that really do the genre justice.
Cat Power
Singer/songwriter with raw playing style and well written lyrics about life. Vocals are emotional with tinge of melancholy, but a powerful impression.
Jukebox the Ghost - Somebody (song, 2012)
I saw Jukebox open for The Bird and the Bee three years ago at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. I liked their piano pop rock performance and bought their CD, so it's really nice to see them still rocking the indie scene. Somebody is a upbeat poppy song about not just wanting, but needing.
Grizzly Bear - Sleeping Ute (song, 2012)
The Brooklyn indie rock outfit has created another great single on the follow up to Veckatimest, and it sounds great. Dreamy, rocking guitar throughout.
The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather (song, 2012)
A sexy summer song from a new indie pop rock group from Los Angeles. Tried to listen to the I'm Sorry album but wasn't that into it. But I love this song with some ambient guitar picking backing under a physical connection between a boy and a girl.
